On September 6th, I visited the PC5T Contest station.
They were participating in the annual VHF IARU Contest.
They’ve been doing this for 20 years at the same location near the village of De Cocksdorp, on the east side of the northern tip, directly on the Wadden Sea.
Time to test the V-Dipole in all its variations there too.
That went exceptionally well.
That day, in addition to the VHF Contest, there was the All Asia Contest and the HF Field Day Contest.
Since my antennas aren’t really suitable for DXing, I decided to opt for 40m. Plenty of stations, and propagation within Europe was perfect! I was able to work many stations on my call. What was striking compared to home is that I was able to work a lot of German stations this time.
Normally, I work a lot of UK stations at home.
The environment plays a similar role here!
When the Field Day Contest was about to start, I continued under the callsign PC5T, since the points earned on HF during the Field Day also count towards the VHF Contest.
I was supposed to stay until Sunday evening, but unfortunately, I had to return Saturday evening. Nevertheless, I was still able to make 75 QSOs for PC5T in those few hours.
All in all a very successful day! Next year for a full weekend and full occupancy for both HF and VHF!
